- Description
The aim of this research was to optimize the production a novel organic biofertilizer with fungicidal effect in a continuous anaerobic bioreactor optimizing the main operational parameters that control the anaerobic digestion process. A 2 4 factorial, central composite design (CCD) was employed to design the experimental assays to enhance biofertilizer production. The selected four factors were temperature, pH, stirring rate and substrate to microorganism (F/M) ratio each at five levels, as response an independent fungicide test of the leaf fungal pathogen Mycosphaerella fijiensis (M. fijiensis), the major black leaf streak disease on bananas was measured in the biofertilizer. The regression coefficient (R 2 ) for the full quadratic model predicted a 100% growth inhibition of M. fijiensis when used as biocontrol at 25 o C, pH 5, 90 rpm and 0.1 F/M ratio, the optimum process performance achieved in just 7 days residence time. The results suggested using the biofertilizer produced under optimum operational conditions as an alternative fungicide to inhibit the growth and development of M. fijiensis in organic farms of Ecuador.
