According to the calculation carried out, it was determined that in the micro-basin there are 5 types of plant cover, among which are: 50% fruit trees / 50% cultivated grass; 70% tropical arboriculture / 30% cultivated grass; 70% cultivated grass / 30% fruit trees, 100% tropical arboriculture and 100% natural forest. Para esto, se empleó información cartográfica del MAG (Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería) y datos obtenidos de visitas realizadas a la microcuenca Membrillo. Para la determinación de la cobertura vegetal en la microcuenca Membrillo se seleccionaron 28 puntos de muestro, mientras que para el cálculo de IPH se usó la metodología de (Romero y Ferreira, 2010) que consistió en realizar transectos radiados, con un radio de 50 m, con la finalidad de observar la cobertura vegetal cada 0,5 m. Se utilizaron 7 indicadores (estructura, densidad, interceptación de la precipitación, presencia de mulch, características especiales, tipo de vegetación y grado de intervención). De acuerdo con el cálculo realizado, se determinó que en la microcuenca existen 5 tipos de coberturas vegetales, entre las que se encuentran: 50% frutales / 50% pasto cultivado; 70% arboricultura tropical / 30% pasto cultivado; 70% pasto cultivado / 30% frutales, 100% arboricultura tropical y 100% bosque natural. De acuerdo al índice utilizado la cobertura vegetal que provee mayor protección hídrica es el bosque natural con 1.
