Opis
Streszczenie:The purpose of this research was to evaluate the health of primates through hemograms at the James Brown Rescue Center, located in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas. Blood samples were taken from 17 primates of the species Lagothrix lagotricha, Alouatta palliata, Cebus aequatorialis and Saimiri sciureus. The methodology included basic clinical examinations and blood sampling, which were analyzed by fluorescence flow cytometry in an automated counter Abaxis Vetscan HM5®. The statistical analysis consisted of non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis and parametric ANOVA tests to evaluate differences between species, age group and sex. The main results showed some significant variations in erythrocytes (p = <0.001), and hemoglobin (p = <0.013). These differences may be related to species-specific physiological adaptations and the conditions of confinement in the rescue center. Most hematological parameters were found to be within the physiological ranges reported for neotropical primates, although some significant variations suggested influences of internal and external factors. Nevertheless, no critical alterations indicating health problems were found in the population studied.
