Description
Summary:The objective of this research was to evaluate the use of aquaponic crops as an environmental education strategy to strengthen the technical skills of students in the rural schools of Bejuco-Hacha. Two schools in the Bejuco-Hacha community were taken as an example. The participatory rural appraisal method was applied through semi-structured interviews and participatory observation. The data was processed in the SPSS 21.0 software to know the differences between the intervention groups for the descriptive variables were analyzed by Chi-square tests and for the categorical variables and the paired T test for continuous variables. The study comprised three phases: the first allowed a diagnosis of the technical abilities of students. The second was based on the implementation of an environmental education program through aquaponic crops, and the third evaluated the use of aquaponic farming as an environmental education strategy through the level of awareness and learning among the participants. It was found that in the children an acceptable motivation prevailed (32.9%). However, an average grade of 5.53/10 points in the initial written evaluation; The same as in the final evaluation amounted to 9.64/10 points. Of the nine capacities analyzed in the participants (1 technique and 8 attitudinal), in seven there was a significant difference (p <0.05) in comparison with the initial performance. The knowledge, the interest and the work in the team are the three capacities that are reached at a better level through the program. It is concluded that aquaponic crops are a viable strategy to strengthen the technical and attitudinal capacities of elementary students.
