The main variables recorded were grain yield (RG), agronomic efficiency of N (EAN) and net economic benefit (BEN). The RG and EAN were significantly influenced (p<0.05) by the fertilization treatments, regardless of the genotypes evaluated. The highest RG was achieved with injected and drenched liquid fertilization, with 8376.72 and 7898.39 kg ha-1, respectively. Likewise, the highest EAN was reached with injected liquid fertilization and drench, with 23.61 and 20.95 kg of grain kg-1 of applied N, respectively. Similarly, injected and drenched liquid fertilization obtained the highest BEN with 806 and 676 USD ha-1, respectively. It is concluded that under rainfed conditions in maize areas in Portoviejo is more convenient and profitable to carry out injected liquid fertilization and surface drenching |

El experimento se desarrolló en la zona maicera El Florón. Los tratamientos consistieron de dos genotipos (INIAP H – 601 e INIAP H – 603) y tres tecnologías de fertilización (fertilización líquida en drench, líquida inyectada y granulada). Las principales variables registradas fueron rendimiento de grano (RG), eficiencia agronómica de N (EAN) y beneficio económico neto (BEN). El RG y EAN fueron influenciados significativamente (p<0.05) por los tratamientos de fertilización, independientemente de los genotipos evaluados. El mayor RG se logró con la fertilización líquida inyectada y en drench, con 8376.72 y 7898.39 kg ha-1, respectivamente. Así mismo la mayor EAN fue alcanzada con la fertilización líquida inyectada y en drench, con 23.61 y 20.95 kg de grano kg-1 de N aplicado, respectivamente.
