Opis
Izvleček:We present here a study to determine the optimal moisture concentration for germination of the seeds of Guayacán Rosado (Tabebuia rosea Bertol A. DC.). The following are our research objectives: 1) Determine the optimal method for drying the seeds; 2) Estimate the moisture concentration in the seeds and create moisture loss curves. In accordance with these objectives we implemented three investigative phases. Three methods of drying seeds (calcium chloride, silica gel, and shade drying) with different exposure times (24h, 48h and 72h) were established. It was concluded that drying in the shade for 24 hours was the best treatment for the seed of this species based on the result of the variables. Subsequently two methods for estimating the moisture concentration in the seeds were established: the constant high temperature method (ISTA, 2005) and the fast moisture meter method (Kett PM600), of which the first was most efficient. It should be noted that this is a destructive method, so the amount of seed available should be taken into account when employing it. Finally, we created moisture loss curves with an interval of 6 hours, establishing 24h as the time required for optimally drying the seed of this species and allowing its germination.
