| Shrnutí: | Spodoptera frugiperda Smith is the insect pest with the greatest economic damage to corn crops in Ecuador. The objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness and economic benefits of the application of silicon (Si), insecticides and their combinations for the control of fall armyworm. Two types of insecticides were used: spinetoram and emamectin benzoate in doses of 0.5 mL and 0.75 mL respectively, and two doses of silicon of 15 mL and 20 mL. A completely randomized block design (DBCA) with AxB factorial arrangement was applied. The plant material used was the Emblema corn hybrid. In the planting area, nine treatments and three replicates were established, with a total of 27 plots of 20 m2. The response variables were: insect incidence, foliar damage, plant height, plant height at ear insertion, plus length, diameter, weight of the ear with and without bracts, and yield. The best treatment to control the incidence of the worm was T8 (Si 20 mL + benzoate 0.75 mL), for foliar damage, better efficiency was obtained with T5 (Si 15 mL + Spinetoram 0.5 mL) 40 days after sowing (DDS); both variables, as well as plant height, height of insertion into the ear, length of ear with and without bracts, were significantly influenced (p<0.05), while weight and diameter of ear with and without bracts were not significantly influenced according to the analysis of variance. |
