Özet:The purpose of this research was to evaluate the quality of the water using the ichthyofauna as a bioindicator in El Tabacal - Rocafuerte wetland, for which the ichthyofauna existing in the wetland was evaluated, through an on-site technical visit with which it was known the places of access to the site, by means of a survey the uses of water by the surrounding community were analyzed, with a total population of 125 and a sample of 46 inhabitants was taken, according to the criteria of the inhabitants of the area, it is estimated that agriculture is the main labor occupation with 74% and that water is used primarily for animal consumption (61%), 4 sampling stations were selected (A, B, C and D) with three repetitions each, the times established for the sampling was two in the morning (7:00 and 9:00 am) and one in the afternoon (15:00 pm), 5 species were identified, where the diversity of wetland species based on the Shannon-Wiener index was down with 1.96. The trophic composition was obtained by dissecting the individuals, thus obtaining that omnivorous species predominate, a total of 2203 individuals were captured, the predominant species was Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) with 1147 individuals and the species with the least presence of individuals was Huaija with 106, no individuals with anomalies or malformations were found. Once the different categories were analyzed, it was found that the water quality of El Tabacal wetland is poor.
