| description | The present investigation was carried out in order to study the incidence of virosis in the cultivation of watermelon in the Valley of the Carrizal River, for this purpose surveys were carried out to a certain number of producers, who already knew the affecting virus. This cucurbitaceous is currently carried out in the different localities of Tosagua and Chone cantons, by means of the collected data the answers were tabulated and it was included that in this zone there is a high incidence rate of virosis. The data collected in the surveys were validated by conducting a field trial which allowed us to know the aggressiveness of the virus in the watermelon crop. The experimental unit consisted of a plot of 36 m2, having a distance of 1m between plants and 5m between rows. Due to the high incidence of virosis in the watermelon plants under study, production could not be reached, as expressed by farmers in the questions indicated in this baseline study (surveys). |

Due to the high incidence of virosis in the watermelon plants under study, production could not be reached, as expressed by farmers in the questions indicated in this baseline study (surveys).La presente investigación se llevó a cabo con el fin de estudiar la incidencia de virosis en el cultivo de sandía en el Valle del Rio Carrizal, para ello se realizaron encuestas a un determinado número de productores, los cuales ya conocían al virus que está afectando a esta cucurbitácea en la actualidad, esta se efectuó en las distintas localidades de los cantones Tosagua y Chone, mediante los datos recogidos se tabularon las respuestas dadas y se pudo concluir que en esta zona existe un alto índice de incidencia de virosis. Los datos recabados en las encuestas fueron validados mediante la realización de un ensayo de campo lo que nos permitió conocer el índice de agresividad de la virosis en el cultivo de sandía. La unidad experimental consistió en una parcela de 36 m2, disponiendo de un distanciamiento de 1m entre plantas y 5m entre hileras.
