Producción forrajera, composición química y ensilabilidad del follaje de tres variedades de camote (Ipomoea batatas, L.)

Descripció
Sumari:The purpose of this research was to evaluate the forage production, chemical composition and foliage ensilability of three sweet potato varieties (Toquecita, Philipino and Guayaco Morado) against two cutting times (60 and 90 days) and two cutting lengths (50 and 75%). The experiment was conducted in the Pastures and Forages unit of ESPAM “M.F.L.” located in Bolívar canton, province of Manabí, under a completely randomized block design in 3x2x2 factorial arrangement, with 12 treatments and four repetitions. The results showed forage productions of 17.15-44.00 t.ha-1 (± 3.54), with the highest yield, Toquecita stood out at 90 days and at 75% cut; the chemical composition of the foliage showed values of 14.50-19.70% CP, 15.77-32.93% CF, 11.91-13.87% ash, 32.93-48.54% NFE, 2.08-3.80% EE, 75.54-89.03% Humidity, 2341-4079 Kcal/Kg GE, as superior, Philipino was identified at 60 days; the silage presented 11.00-19.30% CP, 13.00-31.74% ash, 15.70-31.90% NFE, 1.78-6.78% EE, 75.10-89.83% Humidity, 1609-3066 Kcal/Kg GE, 26.06-44.00% CF, 41.12-45.50 % NDF, 36.83-43.33% ADF, 6.88-12.26% Lignin, 3.56-4.82 pH, 0.99-2.26% Total sugars, as Philipino was best demonstrated at 60 days and at 75% cut. It is concluded that the foliage of the sweet potato varieties evaluated, influenced by the time and the length of cut show high volumes of forage production, excellent chemical composition and good valuation in the silage process, so its use is proposed for feeding the cattle.
