Description
Summary:The objective of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of two protocols of superovulation in mongrel cows of the Hacienda La Balda in El Carmen canton. Ten genetically superior cows were selected under optimum nutritional and sanitary conditions, which were randomized into two study groups (n=5). Data analysis was performed with the T-Student test for paired or related samples in the SAS statistical program. Group 1 received 200mg of FSH in 8 doses (Folltropin-V); group 2 was treated with 140mg of FSH in 4 doses + 400 U.I of eCG single dose (Folltropin-V + Folligon). The variables to be measured were: number of corpus luteum; number of apt embryos to be washable; number of apt embryos to be transferred and embryo quality. No statistically significant difference was found among any of the variables under study (P˃0.05). However, cost-benefit analysis showed that treatment 1 was more cost-effective than treatment 2. Ratio 1: 11.58 versus 1: 7.69 USD respectively.
