| Summary: | The study evaluated the effect of cannabidiol (CBD) as an adjuvant in the management of rescue analgesia in Felis silvestris catus subjected to ovariohysterectomy, through a controlled, randomized, and prospective experimental design involving 30 females distributed into three treatment groups: CBD + Tramadol, CBD + Ketoprofen, and Ketoprofen + Tramadol. Physiological variables (heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, blood pressure) and behavioral parameters were recorded using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Grimace Scale at 0, 6, and 12 postoperative hours. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and nonparametric tests as appropriate. Quantitative results indicate that the CBD + Ketoprofen combination (T2) reduced pain by 0.5 points (16.13% on the Grimace Scale), maintained stable physiological parameters (HR 178.57 bpm; RR 25.57 rpm; Temp 38.08 °C), and presented a favorable cost-benefit ratio (USD 41.68/point). Therefore, it meets the criteria for clinical effectiveness and economic efficiency. In contrast, CBD + Tramadol (T3) showed an increase in pain (−0.2 points; −9.09%) and lower physiological stability, demonstrating no analgesic benefit and inefficient cost (−USD 105.95/point). Ketoprofen + Tramadol (T1) achieved the greatest reduction in the Grimace score (0.9 points; 25.71%) but at a higher cost (USD 40.31/point), being clinically effective but less economically efficient. It was concluded that oral administration of CBD as an adjuvant improved postoperative analgesia, stabilized physiological constants, reduced pain perception, and represented a cost-effective alternative to conventional protocols, constituting an innovative and efficient approach to postoperative pain management in female cats. |
