Resumo: | ABSTRACT The behavior of two agricultural by-products as an alternative to be used in the deep bed system during pig rearing was evaluated; 18 castrated male pigs with 11 kg initial weight and 35 days of age were used. A descriptive and comparative research was carried out between homogeneous groups, with nine replicates; 1.20 m² barn density. Data was obtained by comparing averages of the different groups of variables under study using the Student's T-test at 5% using the statistical software SAS 2004. No significant difference was found (P < 0.05) in the treatments under study for each variable; the T2 in total weight gain with 51,64 ± 2,32 kg and 49,82 ± 1,56 kg for T1; the feed conversion with 1,96 ± 0,06 in T2 and 2,03 ± 0,04 in T1. The beds (T1 and T2) were evaluated by the NTE INEN method, presenting a Ph 9,15 and 9,10; humidity 52,50% and 78,40%; temperature 29,50 °C and 30,50 °C respectively. Presence of microorganisms such as fecal Coliforms positive in T1; Aspergillius and Penicillium positive in both samples. These results allow us to conclude that by-products such as rice husks and corn stubbles can be used for the deep bed system in the production of small and medium - scale pigs without affecting the animal welfare. The cost-benefit ratio was 1,00 for rice husks and 1,01 for maize husks. These values show that they are equal to or higher than 1, suggesting that the research project is acceptable. |
