| Sumario: | Banana cultivation generates a remarkable amount of residues that lack proper management. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate the properties of the banana pseudostem fiber (Musa paradisiaca, Musa sapientum and Musa acuminata) for its use as raw material in the textile industry. A completely randomized design was applied with three treatments, which were made up of the species under study and five repetitions were carried out for each treatment. The fiber extraction was artisan through the following steps: cutting, cleaning and transport of the pseudostem, fiber extraction, combing, drying and storage, evaluating the physical properties of the fiber obtained. In the statistical analysis, it was determined that the species with the highest yield was Musa sapientum, whose fiber has an average length of 123.34 cm, a yield of 44.08%, elongation of 7.93%, an average resistance equal to 30.52 MPa and the highest linear density equal to 0.070 dtex, in comparison with the species M. paradisiaca, and M. acuminata. The shape of the cross section of the studied species is circular, with M. acuminata being the species with the greatest uniformity in the arrangement of filaments. It was found that the evaluated species showed similarity in length and thickness with abaca, ramie and sisal. Regarding the cost of production, the artisanal extraction of banana fiber requires an approximate investment of $ 5.33. In short, the fiber of the species studied presents favorable conditions for its use in the textile industry. |
