Five treatments were proposed with four replicates: T1 (30 Tm / ha of fresh azolla), T2 (40 Tm / ha fresh azolla), T3 (50 Tm / ha fresh azolla), T4 (absolute control) and T5 (chemical control) . The experimental material used was the INIAP-15 rice variety. The control with chemical fertilization was the treatment that obtained the best results, but it should be noted that azolla treatment (50 Tm / ha) maintained similar statistical conditions and therefore is considered an alternative to improve rice crop productivity. From the point of view of the soil chemical conditions, the application of the symbiont stabilized the properties of the same, contributing to maintain its fertility. And the best economic option was T3 (application of 50 Tm of fresh azolla / ha), which had the highest net profit, and 5.6% rate of return. |

And the best economic option was T3 (application of 50 Tm of fresh azolla / ha), which had the highest net profit, and 5.6% rate of return.La presente investigación fue realizada en el área de CIIDEA (Ciudad de la Investigación, Innovación y Desarrollo Agropecuario) de la Escuela Superior Politécnica Agropecuaria de Manabí, en los meses de agosto de 2015 a enero de 2016, se ejecutó con el propósito de mejorar la productividad del cultivo de arroz y evaluar la incidencia que tiene el simbionte Azolla caroliniana-Anabaena azollae sobre las propiedades químicas del suelo al aplicarla en diferentes dosificaciones. Se plantearon 5 tratamientos con 4 réplicas: T1 (30 Tm/ha de azolla fresca), T2 (40 Tm/ha azolla fresca), T3 (50 Tm/ha azolla fresca), T4 (testigo absoluto) y T5 (testigo químico). El material experimental usado fue la variedad de arroz INIAP-15. El testigo con fertilización química fue el tratamiento que obtuvo los mejores resultados, pero, cabe señalar que el tratamiento con azolla (50 Tm/ha) mantuvo similares condiciones estadísticas y por tanto se considera una alternativa para mejorar la productividad del cultivo de arroz. Desde el punto de vista de las condiciones químicas del suelo la aplicación del simbionte estabilizó las propiedades del mismo, contribuyendo a mantener su fertilidad.
