| Sumari: | Currently, the water used for irrigating crops in the Carrizal-Chone system exhibits unpleasant odors. This is exacerbated by the discharge of wastewater from agricultural activities, which affects both the taste and odor of water in surface or groundwater sources. The objective of this study was to evaluate physicochemical treatments for reducing odors in the irrigation water of the mentioned system, used in La Pastora Sol farm in Tosagua-Manabí. The research was experimental, assessed through inductive-deductive, bibliographic, and statistical-descriptive methods. The completely randomized bifactorial design included 6 treatments with 3 replications each. The main techniques employed were observation, olfactory panel training for accurate odor detection in water, and applying physicochemical treatments involving low and high charcoal, lime, and chlorine doses. The results showed that chlorine application was the best option for reducing odors in the water of the Carrizal-Chone system. It is recommended to optimize chlorine dosage according to the specific needs of consumers and the nature of the problem affecting the water resource and to disseminate the proposed strategies in this research through communication channels. |
