| Summary: | The objective of this research was to evaluate the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) for the improvement of tourism management in the northern zone of Manabí, a heritage that encompasses a wide range of traditions, including music, dance, gastronomy, handicrafts and local festivities. In order to carry out the research study, a non-experimental exploratory methodology was used with a qualitative and quantitative approach, structured in three phases of development. The first phase consisted of carrying out a situational diagnosis of the ICH in the study area, which allowed to know first of all the social, economic, cultural and touristic characterization of the heritage, and then to update the existing inventory, as well as to identify the demand and its perspective of the ICH, allowing to determine its current valuation. In the second phase, the management of the ICH was evaluated, both in terms of government and tourism, information that served as input for its strategic analysis. And finally, as a third phase, the design of an action plan was proposed for the progress of the management and use of the ICH, which for its correct fulfillment, a follow-up and control plan was also proposed using the 5w2h matrix. Consequently, the main result was the scarce compliance with the competencies of the responsible actors in terms of management and governance for the preservation and safeguarding of the ICH. Therefore, the need to implement effective protection and valorization measures is emphasized. |
