| description | The objective of this investigation was to elaborate a sustainability diagnosis that contributes to the tourism sector in Portoviejo canton in the context of COVID-19, the investigation that was developed was exploratory with a mixed approach. To carry out this study, three phases were established: beginning with the diagnosis, through a bibliographical-documentary review where important aspects such as geographic, environmental, economic, and social characteristics were identified and defined; Tourism management was evaluated through interviews with local managers addressed to the tourism department of the GAD Portoviejo, office of the Ministry of Tourism in Manabí and finally to the director of tourism, culture and heritage of the provincial government in Manabí, in addition the tourist offer was evaluated and analyzed through the review of the tourist cadastre; the tourist profile was continuously evaluated where the 384 surveys were carried out; in addition, the SWOT analysis was carried out, which, once weighted, established the main variables to formulate the problem and strategic solution. Secondly, through the evaluation of the sustainable indicators validated by a guide from the Valencian Community and the Espam University, they are directed according to the importance and interaction of the fundamental pillars, likewise an evaluation was carried out based on the axes of sustainability, which duly determined the criteria. Finally, a proposal for key actions was presented as a control and monitoring plan to promote and encourage the application of sustainability in order to improve the tourism sector, especially in raising awareness of accessible tourism. |

Para llevar a cabo este estudio se establecieron tres fases: iniciando con el diagnóstico, a través de una revisión bibliográfica – documental en donde se identificaron y delimitaron aspectos importantes como características geográficas, ambientales, económicas y sociales; se evalúo la gestión turística mediante entrevista a gestores locales direccionadas al departamento turístico del GAD Portoviejo, oficina del ministerio de turismo de Manabí y por último a la directora de turismo, cultura y patrimonio del gobierno provincial de Manabí, además se analizó la oferta turística mediante la revisión del catastro turístico; continuamente se evalúo el perfil del turista donde se realizaron los 384 encuestas; además se ejecutó el análisis FODA, que una vez ponderado estableció las variables principales para formular el problema y solución estratégica. En segundo lugar, mediante la evaluación de los indicadores sostenibles validada por guía de la comunitat Valenciana y la universidad Espam, están direccionados en función a la importancia e interacción de los pilares fundamentales, así mismo se efectuó una evaluación en base a los ejes de sostenibilidad, las cuales determinaron debidamente los criterios.
