Concentración de metales pesados en el cangrejo rojo (Ucides occidentalis) del refugio de vida silvestre “Isla Corazón” cantón Sucre-Manabí

The objective of this research was to evaluate the concentration of heavy metals (Pb, Hg and Cd) in the hepatopancreas of the red crab (Ucides Occidentalis) from the Isla Corazón wildlife refuge as an indicator of anthropogenic contamination. For the determination of the concentrations of heavy metals (Pb, Hg and Cd) in the hepatopancreas red crab (Ucides occidentalis) the following techniques were used: ICP-OES (Inductive Coupled Plasma) and the EPA 3015ª and EPA 3051 method in the laboratory of the University of the Americas (UDLA) applied the Pearson correlation coefficient between the concentrations of metals and the physicochemical parameters of water and sediment, an analysis of variance and significance test (Tukey). The results were shown within the maximum permissible limit for cadmium in a range of 0.014 to 0.202 mg/kg and mercury from 0.012 to 0.211 mg/kg, while lead did present data between 0.671 to 4.093 mg/kg that exceeded the established limit by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA, 2015), during the months of May, July and August. The statistical analyzes carried out in the investigation showed that there are no significant differences and therefore no correlation between the physicochemical parameters and the concentrations of Pb, Hg and Cd.
