The quantitative method - was used for the identification of environmental knowledge deductive, interview techniques, tree problems, matrix Swot, training workshops with the method of learning by doing. For the determination of local capacities is based on the methodology of the programme for the development of the United Nations. According to the results, it was found that 86% of respondents if they received training in environmental education, and 14% have not had this opportunity; However, school teachers stated that they have environmental knowledge; This group has a science club within the institution as a means of learning; While parents do not have knowledge and they have not received training on this subject. In terms of local capacities, the researched group demonstrated abilities, skills, and techniques about the process of making compost and agro-ecological garden, same that respond to their needs of food security. Based on the findings, was prepared a proposal of good environmental practices of implementation of organic gardens. |

Based on the findings, was prepared a proposal of good environmental practices of implementation of organic gardens.La investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar la influencia del conocimiento ambiental en las capacidades locales de los habitantes de la comunidad 12 de Octubre, sub-cuenca del río Carrizal, fue de tipo no experimental, se utilizaron metodologías de investigación-acción participativa, aplicadas a las instituciones educativas. Para la identificación del conocimiento ambiental se empleó el método cuantitativo – deductivo, con técnicas de entrevistas, árbol de problemas, matrices FODA, talleres de capacitación con el método de aprender- haciendo. La determinación del grado de conocimiento ambiental consistió en realizar un diagnóstico de la situación actual de la comunidad mediante un árbol de problema, con la participación de docentes padres de familias y estudiantes se elaboró la matriz Foda en donde se evidenció el desconocimiento de los problemas ambientales, la carencia de proyectos, poca cultura, poco interés ambiental, etc., en donde el 86% de los entrevistados manifestaron que si han recibido capacitación en educación ambiental, y un 14% no han tenido esta oportunidad, las capacidades locales se basó en la metodología del Programa para el Desarrollo de las Naciones Unidas. En cuanto a las capacidades locales, el grupo evaluado demostró capacidades, habilidades y técnicas sobre el proceso de elaboración de compost y huerto agroecológico, mismos que responden a sus necesidades de seguridad alimentaria.
