In the study community, three sampling stations were established, making the two replicates at each point, in which the respective microbiological analyzes (total coliforms and fecal coliforms) were performed. Based on results and correlating them with the microbiological requirements for the use in the consumption according to the norm INEN was determined that the water coming from the slopes of Julián community shows a high contamination of both total coliforms and fecal coliforms that is they are not suitable for the human consumption if it is drunk in a direct way from water sources. Because of these waters were unfit for human consumption, the results obtained were also correlated with the microbiological requirements according to the TULSMA, identifying that the waters of this place should pass through a conventional treatment or disinfection in order to be consumed by the Inhabitants of this community. |

Because of these waters were unfit for human consumption, the results obtained were also correlated with the microbiological requirements according to the TULSMA, identifying that the waters of this place should pass through a conventional treatment or disinfection in order to be consumed by the Inhabitants of this community.La investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar la calidad del agua de la Microcuenca del Río Carrizal, específicamente en la comunidad de Julián mediante indicadores microbiológicos, interrelacionándolos con la normas INEN para establecer su uso en el consumo doméstico, además si las aguas presentaban coliformes totales y fecales se interrelacionaron con el TULSMA (Texto Unificado de Legislación Secundaria del Ministerio del Ambiente), para identificar que pretratamiento se le daba a las aguas antes de ser usadas en el consumo doméstico. En la comunidad de estudio, se establecieron tres estaciones de muestreo, realizando dos replicas en cada punto, en los mismos que se realizaron los análisis microbiológicos respectivos (coliformes totales y coliformes fecales). Con los resultados obtenidos y correlacionándolos con los requisitos microbiológicos para el uso en el consumo doméstico según la normativa INEN se determinó que el agua proveniente de las vertientes de la comunidad de Julián presenta una elevada contaminación tanto de coliformes totales como de coliformes fecales, las cuales no son aptas para el consumo humano si se la toma de manera directa desde la fuente para este uso.
