Crynodeb:The objective of this research was to evaluate three types of litter, three measures of thickness and their influence on ammonia levels in the rearing of Cobb 500 broiler chickens. A bifactorial arrangement was used, which included the effect of the litter (wood chip, rice husk and peanut husk) and the effect of thickness (10, 15 and 20 cm) plus a control treatment, raised floor. For the study of the data, the analysis of variance was used through the statistical package Statistix 10.0 and an alpha value of 5%. The variable of ammonia levels was carried out through an air ammonia meter and there was a significant difference effect (P <0.0001) between the treatments during all weeks, where the group that reported the lowest ammonia emission was floor elevated with 1.35; 1.63; 1.68 (ppm). The animal welfare variable was obtained by inspecting the chicken breast and plantar, for this variable there was a significant difference (P <0.0001), the highest percentage was obtained by raised floor with (85.00%). A significant difference (P <0.05) was expressed for the variable beak and legs pigmentation, the raised floor presented the highest score for the legs (9.00), and in the same way for beak (7.75) using the technique de roche fan. The results allow us to conclude that the control treatment (raised floor) emitted a lower concentration of ammonia and presented fewer affections for the birds.
