| description | The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of plantain peel meal on the feed balance and growth curve of broiler chickens in the initial stage. The flour was subjected to in vitro tests for allergenic toxicity and microbiological tests for molds and yeasts to rule out toxicity due to mycotoxins, with negative results in both tests. As for the balancing, the substitutions of banana peel meal were made within the 45% corn content of each feed. These formulations were subjected to bromatological tests using fat (%), protein (%) and moisture (%), variables that were analyzed using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), analysis of variance for the fat variable and non-parametric kruskal Wallis test for protein and moisture. The results indicated that the best treatment was T1 (Balanced with 25% banana peel meal), presenting means of 6.07% fat, 19.93% protein and 13.02% moisture, results within the stipulations of NTE INEN 1829 (1992-1). After 16 days of broiler feeding, T1 gave a higher average broiler weight (275.4 g), being slightly above the control (271 g). |

Para el efecto, se plantearon tres tratamientos con diferentes porcentajes de harina de cáscara de plátano (25%, 50% y 75%), utilizando además un testigo sin la incorporación de esta harina. La harina fue sometida a pruebas in vitro de toxicidad alergénica y a pruebas microbiológicas de mohos y levaduras para descartar toxicidad por micotoxinas, dando negativo en ambas pruebas. En cuanto al balaceado, las sustituciones de la harina de cáscara de plátano, se realizaron dentro del 45% de maíz que poseía cada balanceado. Estas formulaciones fueron sometidas a pruebas bromatológicas mediante, grasa (%), proteína (%) y humedad (%), variables que fueron analizadas mediante un Diseño Completamente al Azar (DCA), análisis de varianza para la variable grasa y prueba no paramétrica de kruskal Wallis para proteína y humedad. Los resultados indicaron que el mejor tratamiento fue el T1 (Balanceado con 25% harina de cáscara de plátano) presentando medias de 6.07% de grasa, 19.93% de proteína y 13.02% de humedad, resultados dentro de lo estipulado por la norma NTE INEN 1829 (1992-1).
