Sumario:The purpose of this research was to characterize the floristic composition and predominance of weeds in rice cultivation in Tosagua canton. To diagnose the current situation of weeds, a survey model of the FAO modified to the interests of the researcher was followed, several sectors belonging to the aforementioned canton were considered, such as Bachillero, Cuatro Esquinas, La Poza, Figueroa and La Estancilla, for the floristic prospecting, 10 representative plots of each sector were selected, and 10 random samplings using a quadrat of 0.50 x 0.50 m. In each sampling the counting and identification of the weeds was carried out. Based on what was investigated, 18 different weed species were determined, revealing La Poza site as the largest representative of species with 196, likewise the weed with the most appearances was Lippia nodiflora. Next, it was evidenced that 61% of the species found are of the Magnoliopsida class with 6 different types of orders, highlighting solanales as the most representative with 37% and 9 types of families where the most influential was the solanaceae with 28% of the total population, 39% of the remaining species belong to the Liliopsida class with 3 types of varied orders where the Poales order and the Poaceae family prevailed by 72% respectively. Lippia nodiflora obtained the most representative results in terms of ecological indicators, making a density of 1590 m2, dominance 16.91% and frequency of 212% in the studied sectors.
