סיכום:Throughout history, floods have been natural disasters that are seriously detrimental to society. The areas of South America are those that have a considerable danger of flooding, where there are also deficiencies in water prediction models. This research aimed to evaluate the incidence of the use of the topographic humidity index (THI) in the diagnosis of the threat of river overflow in the urban area in Chone city. For this purpose, GIS geographic information systems were used that were processed through the QGIS software using the local database as starting information. The results showed the morphometric conditions of the land, as well as its drainage network and its slope, it was also demonstrated that 70 km2 of the Chone River sub-basin are located at a high and very high flood risk level, the urban area corresponding to Chone city is one of the cities with the highest ITH, in this way a management plan was carried out to control floods in the sub-basin of the Chone River with prevention and mitigation measures through actions that have the initiative to be proposed to authorities and citizenship in general.
