| description | The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the use of cocoa mucilage (Theobroma cacao L.) as an alternative for obtaining biofuel in the city of Calceta - Manabí. For this, the considerable generation of waste of this residue from the cocoa activity was taken as a starting point, which causes contamination of water and soils. The research was carried out under the guidelines of the completely randomized design (CRD), considering as factor L the proportion of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae): 0.5 kg, 0.1 kg and 0.025 kg. And as factor D, two dehydration methods: saline distillation and molecular sieves, the interaction generated six treatments, each repeated 3 times. This allowed us to deduce that there was variability in the averages of the six treatments, in the pH variable the average ranged between 5.04 and 5.86; in the alcohol concentration between 51.33% and 83%; in obtaining alcohol in relation to biomass between 46.33 ml and 76.67 ml; and in consumption or performance between 35.93% and 58.1%. This allowed to conclude that the treatment with the best indicators was T6 with yeast extract of 0.025 kg and subjected to dehydration by molecular sieves, thus being the one with the highest feasibility for obtaining biofuel as it presents optimal levels. Regarding the economic valuation, a cost of bioethanol production from cocoa mucilage of $ 3.54 per L and a sale price of $ 4.13 with a profit margin of 15% was determined. |

Para ello se tomó como punto de partida la generación considerable de desperdicio de este residuo proveniente de la actividad cacaotera, lo que ocasiona contaminación de agua y suelos. La investigación se llevó a cabo bajo los delineamientos del DCA, planteando como factor L la proporción de levadura (Saccharomyces cerevisiae): 0,5 kg, 0,1 kg y 0,025 kg. Y como factor D, dos métodos de deshidratación: destilación salina y a tamices moleculares, la interacción generó seis tratamientos, repitiéndose cada uno 3 veces. Esto permitió deducir que existió variabilidad en los promedios de los seis tratamientos, en la variable pH el promedio osciló entre 5,04 y 5,86; en la concentración de alcohol entre 51,33% y 83%; en la obtención de alcohol en relación a la biomasa entre 46,33 ml y 76,67 ml; y en consumo o rendimiento entre 35,93% y 58,1%. Pudiendo así concluir que el tratamiento con mejores indicadores fue el T6 con extracto de levadura de 0,025 kg y sometido a deshidratación por tamices moleculares, siendo de este modo el de mayor factibilidad para la obtención de biocombustible al presentar niveles óptimos.
