Gaia:The study aimed to determine the prevalence of bovine brucellosis (Brucella abortus) in Palma de Coco, San Francisco de Novillo parish, Flavio Alfaro canton, as well as to describe management practices related to the disease. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted, sampling 122 cattle from a population of 1,330 animals distributed across 40 farms. Between 4 and 5 blood samples were collected per farm under strict biosecurity measures, and the Rose Bengal test was applied to detect antibodies. Data were recorded on field forms, processed in Excel, and descriptive statistics were used to calculate absolute and relative frequencies and percentages. Of the 122 animals analyzed, 5 tested seropositive, representing an overall prevalence of 4%. Although the number of positive cases was insufficient to perform statistical association analyses with risk factors, deficiencies were identified in the disposal of abortion remains and in biosecurity practices. Most of the 28 surveyed farmers expressed willingness to implement preventive measures, although gaps remain in vaccination and health control. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening immunization campaigns, establishing biosecurity measures, and promoting training to reduce the risk of brucellosis transmission in the area.
