Evaluación del patrimonio cultural inmaterial en la gestión turística de la zona centro de Manabí

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) of the central zone in Manabí province in order to optimize tourism management in the region. The research was conducted in three phases. The first phase involved a situational diagnosis of the ICH to assess its social, economic, and tourism-related conditions. In the second phase, an evaluation of government authorities, managers, and cultural actors was conducted for strategic analysis. In the third phase, an action plan was designed to ensure proper control, compliance, and management of the ICH. During the investigation, several findings were identified in the central zone of Manabí. On a social level, numerous existing cultural heritages were identified, which exhibit a low sensitivity to change and thus contribute to the preservation of Manabí's culture. However, deficient management of basic and complementary services was detected, with some cantons lacking access to certain services. Additionally, there was a lack of support from principal authorities for the Decentralized Autonomous Governments (GAD), as well as limited participation from local communities in preservation efforts. As a conclusion of the investigation, the urgency of implementing measures to ensure the protection and safeguarding of the ICH in the territory is highlighted. It is essential that both government authorities and local communities actively participate in the preservation of the ICH and in improving tourism management.
