Sumario:The study evaluated the effect of administering one or two doses of PGF₂α within the five-day Split-Synch hormonal protocol on reproductive indicators in crossbred cows, specifically estrus expression, ovulation, and conception rates. Forty females were randomly assigned into two equal groups: one treated with a single dose and the other with a double dose of the drug. Both groups received a complementary hormonal regimen including GnRH, eCG, and an intravaginal progesterone-releasing device, strictly adhering to the established protocol. Estrus detection was conducted through direct observation and tail-head marking, while ovulation and pregnancy diagnosis were confirmed by transrectal ultrasonography. Statistical analysis involved descriptive statistics and the non-parametric Chi-square test. The single-dose group exhibited higher rates of estrus (80%), ovulation (75%), and conception (45%) compared to the double-dose group, which recorded 55%, 70%, and 40%, respectively. However, these differences were not statistically significant, suggesting that the number of doses administered does not significantly affect the evaluated parameters. The lower conception rate is attributed to the heterogeneity of the experimental group, which included cows with calves at foot and heifers. In conclusion, a single dose of PGF₂α is as effective as a double dose within the five-day Split-Synch protocol, confirming its viability as an alternative synchronization strategy given the restrictions on estradiol use.
