Description
Summary:The purpose of this research is to identify sites of geotourism interest (SIGT) for the foundation of a Geopark in the Jama – Pedernales district, through the use of a methodology constituted by three fundamental stages: identification, characterization and the generation of use strategies. The identification was developed through the recognition of potential SIGTs, based on references of places given by geologists who are knowledgeable about the area and for its aesthetic characteristics-landscaping, tourism and geological, finding 25 potential places. The identified sites were evaluated determining the geological potential and the tourist availability through specialized fiches. Of the 25 potential sites identified and evaluated, 19 were approved and in subset form the first SIGT inventory of the Jama-Pedernales district and the province. Then they were characterized the 19 SIGT according to 2 important parameters: level of action necessary and vulnerability of use, that were vital to be able to establish a correct management on the sites. The final phase was intended to generate use strategies for SIGT according to the current and specific situation of each one, what in the future will affect the operation of the same, for which it was promising to establish a team of experts aware of the area in a Focus Group, giving as a result of this phase 68 strategies of use for the 19 SIGT formally constituted.
