الملخص:This study evaluated the impact of an environmental education strategy based on the utilization of residual biomass, specifically cocoa husks, on the knowledge and environmental behavior of farmers in the "Pepa de Oro" association in the Membrillo parish. An initial assessment was conducted on the environmental knowledge and behavior of 13 producers, revealing that most were categorized as "Very Poor" and "Poor," while a smaller group fell into the "Fair," "Good," and "Very Good" categories. Subsequently, an environmental education program was implemented, including theoretical and practical workshops on residual biomass management and cocoa husk composting, supported by a guide. After the intervention, a significant improvement was observed in the evaluated environmental education indicators, with producers reaching the "Very Good" and "Good" categories. Based on statistical analysis, the median environmental knowledge of cocoa producers significantly increased from 0.20 to 1.0, reaching the highest level, while environmental behavior also showed considerable improvement, reflected in the increase of the median from 0.33 to 0.66. These results suggest that the strategy was highly effective, enhancing both knowledge and sustainable practices among the cocoa producers of the "Pepa de Oro" association.
