We used a randomized block design with three replications, with two levels of pruning (15 and 30%) and three types of fertilization (Formulated. 354 g Urea + 116 g. of 10-30-10 / plant ; Conventional: 10-30-10 300 g / plant and organic : 400 g of organic fertilizer Biogrowth / plant) . The results indicate that pruning levels (15 and 30 %), and three types of fertilization (formulated , conventional and organic) did not influence the number of healthy buds and infected by witches' broom .In relation with the performance, pruning levels evaluated showed no significant effect . In contrast , we detected significant differences between the types of fertilization, with the conventional fertilization which showed the highest yield 20 quintals/ ha of dry cacao, followed by organic fertilization with 16 quintals / ha and formulated fertilization showed the least yield 10 quintals / ha of dry cacao. Considering the results, we recommended to design fertilization plans based on analysis of soil and the requirements of the crop. |

Considering the results, we recommended to design fertilization plans based on analysis of soil and the requirements of the crop.La investigación se desarrolló desde octubre de 2013 a julio de 2014 en área de cacao de la Carrera de Ingeniería Agrícola de la ESPAM-MFL, ubicada en Calceta-Manabí-Ecuador, y tuvo como objetivo principal estudiar la respuesta del cultivo de cacao a la aplicación de niveles de poda y fertilización química y orgánica. Se utilizó un diseño de bloques completos al azar (DBCA) con arreglo factorial A x B y tres repeticiones, donde se evaluaron dos niveles de poda (15 y 30%) y tres tipos de fertilización (Formulada: 354 g. Urea + 116 g. de 10-30-10/planta; Convencional: 300 g. de 10-30-10/planta y Orgánica: 400 g de abono orgánico Biogrowth/planta). Los resultados indican que los niveles de poda (15 y 30%), y los tres tipos de fertilización (formulada, convencional y orgánica) no influyeron el número de brotes sanos e infectados por escoba de bruja. En cuanto a rendimiento, los niveles de poda evaluados no mostraron un efecto significativo. En contraste, sé detecto diferencias significativas entre los tipos de fertilización, siendo la fertilización convencional la que mostró el mayor rendimiento con 20 qq/ha de cacao seco, seguida de la fertilización orgánica con 16 qq/ha y la fertilización formulada que mostró el menor rendimiento con 10 qq/ha de de cacao seco.
