| Gaia: | The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence and risk factors of Bovine Infectious Rhinotracheitis (IBR) in three parishes in Chone canton (Ricaurte, Eloy Alfaro, and Convento), where the presence of the problem was evident. A descriptive study was conducted, which included blood sampling from a population of 483 cattle, processed at the laboratories of Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas (ESPE). Additionally, a survey was administered to the owners of the 27 evaluated properties. The IDEXX IBR GE AB kit, which is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), was used to diagnose the disease in the 483 cattle, of which 251 females and 36 males tested positive, indicating a prevalence of 59.63%. The results showed that the presence of the disease is indifferent to the sex of the cattle. It was found that the lack of preventive culture in sanitary practices is the main risk factor for the prevalence of IBR in Chone canton and its parishes. These findings underscore the need to implement better sanitary practices and education programs for cattle owners in order to reduce the incidence of the disease and improve the health of livestock in the study area. |
