In the first instance anthropogenic activities were determined by application of observation sheets and surveys of interest according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census of Ecuador "INEC", then through laboratory analysis the concentrations of cadmium and lead in the water samples were observed, finally the results obtained were compared with maximum permissible limits established in Annex 3 of Book VI of the Unified Text of Secondary Legislation of the Ministry of the Environment "TULSMA". The anthropogenic activities with the greatest influence on water quality were agricultural activities, discharge of wastewater and solid waste. The average of the lead concentrations in water was higher 0,043 mg / l, considered as low quality for the preservation of the aquatic life and human consumption. In cadmium, the value was 0,02 mg / l, being within the permissible limits for human consumption but high for the preservation of aquatic life. Concluding that anthropogenic activities negatively influence water quality. |

Concluding that anthropogenic activities negatively influence water quality.En la presente investigación se evaluó la influencia de las actividades antropogénicas en la calidad del agua del río Portoviejo, determinando las actividades antropogénicas en el área metropolitana, además se ponderó la calidad del agua con base en su contenido de cadmio y plomo, comparando los resultados con la legislación ambiental vigente en el Ecuador. En primera instancia se determinó las actividades antropogénicas mediante aplicación de ficha de observación y encuestas de interés según del Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas y Censo del Ecuador “INEC”, luego a través de análisis de laboratorio se observó las concentraciones de cadmio y plomo de las muestras agua, finalmente los resultados obtenidos se los compararon con límites máximos permisibles establecidos en el Anexo 3 del libro VI del Texto Unificado de Legislación Secundaria del Ministerio del Ambiente “TULSMA”. Las actividades antropogénicas con mayor influencia en la calidad del agua fueron las agrícolas, descargar de aguas servidas y descargas de desechos sólidos. El promedio de las concentraciones de plomo en agua fue mayor 0,043 mg/l, considerado de baja calidad para la preservación de la vida acuática y consumo humano. En cadmio el valor estuvo en 0,02 mg/l, encontrándose dentro de los límites permisibles para consumo humano pero alto para la preservación de la vida acuática.
