| description | The present investigation was developed in the municipal slaughter center of the Rocafuerte canton, province of Manabí; whose main objective was to evaluate the prevalence of Mycobacterium spp in bovines slaughtered in the municipal slaughterhouse of said canton. For the development of this work, the following procedure was used: an analysis of the physical lesions compatible with tuberculosis was carried out in the carcasses of cattle slaughtered in the municipal slaughterhouse of Rocafuerte, through the observation technique, where 116 livestock. The presence of Mycobacterium spp was identified by seeding in Stonebrink (ST), Ogawa Kudoh (OK) culture media and Ziehl-Neelsen staining; using samples from the lymph nodes of the bovines under study. The results obtained were socialized with the people in charge of the slaughter area of the Rocafuerte municipal slaughterhouse. Based on the results, it was obtained that, from the sample of 116 cattle studied, 24 presented symptoms of tuberculosis; that is, they showed physical signs of a possible infection, so their lymph nodes were sampled for verification. From the laboratory results (sowings ST and OK) eight samples exhibited bacterial growth; however, only two were positive for tuberculosis. It is concluded that there is a prevalence of 1.72% (2/116) of Mycobacterium bovis in cattle slaughtered at the municipal slaughterhouse of the Rocafuerte canton. |

Para el desarrollo de este trabajo, se utilizó el siguiente procedimiento: se realizó un análisis de las lesiones compatibles a tuberculosis en los ganglios de los bovinos faenados en el matadero municipal de Rocafuerte, mediante la técnica de la observación, en donde se consideraron 116 bovinos. Se procedió a identificar la presencia de Mycobacterium spp mediante la siembra en medios de cultivo Stonebrink (ST), Ogawa Kudoh (OK) y la tinción de Ziehl-Neelsen. Se desarrolló la socialización de los resultados obtenidos con las personas encargadas del área de faenado del matadero municipal de Rocafuerte. Sobre la base de los resultados se obtuvo que, de la muestra de 116 bovinos estudiados 24 presentaron lesiones de tuberculosis; es decir, mostraron signos físicos de una posible infección, por lo que se tomaron muestras de los ganglios linfáticos para su análisis. De los resultados de laboratorios (siembras ST y OK) ocho muestras mostraron crecimiento bacteriano; de las cuales, dos resultaron positivas a tuberculosis.
