Riassunto:Spodoptera frugiperda Smith is one of the most economically damaging insect pests of maize crops in Ecuador. The present research aims to evaluate the effectiveness and economic benefits of new insecticide molecules for the control of S. frugiperda. Four insecticides were used, spinetoram (1mL), flubendiamide (1mL), cyantroniprole (2mL), chloriantraniprole (1mL). The plant material used was the Emblema hybrid. With a randomised complete block design, with 5 treatments, 4 replicates and 20 experimental units of 20m2. The variables to be measured were to determine incidence and damage of S. frugiperda, plant height, height of ear insertion, length, diameter, ear weight and yield. The statistical analysis showed a statistically significant difference (p<0.05) for all treatments under the effect of the new insecticide molecules in relation to the control. The results showed that all insecticide treatments reduced the incidence and damage of S. frugiperda, highlighting the T1 (spinetoran) that registered a better control of the pest and increased the yield kg/ha-1 of the maize crop. T3 (chlorantraniliprole) and T4 (cyantraniliprole) showed the highest yields per hectare. From an economic point of view, T3 (chlorantraniliprole) and T4 (cyantraniliprole) showed the highest increase in net benefits and the lowest increase in costs.
