Organizaciones no gubernamentales y su aporte en la integración social de inmigrantes venezolanos en Quito, 2015-2019

In the last decade, Ecuador has had to face the challenge of managing a large flow of immigrants from Venezuela who leave their country due to the political and economic situation, as specified by Célleri (2019). Ecuador historically is a country that expels immigrants rather than a recipient of immigrants. Thus, the issue of social integration/inclusion and NGOs' contribution to the social integration of Venezuelan immigrants in Quito is a current issue. This research seeks to critically address the concepts of social integration/inclusion in the context of international migration, the problem of migration governance as an essential issue in the field of international relations, and the concept of NGO itself to explain the contribution of non-governmental organizations in the social integration of Venezuelan immigrants in the city of Quito, 2015-2019. Besides, through this analysis, it is sought to reveal how these two concepts interrelate in international relations. The methodology applied is of a qualitative approach. It uses the inductive method and semi-structured interviews due to its flexibility and nature as a data collection instrument. Also, the hard data obtained in the first phase of the research carried out by Daniela Célleri (2018) has been used to contextualize immigrants' migratory problems in the north of Quito. Likewise, Ecuador's social inclusion approach and public policies for migration based on legal instruments and the Republic of Ecuador's Constitution are analyzed. Most of the NGOs operating in Ecuador are from Europe, so the different integration models applied at the European level are analyzed. In this way, it is justified that, in our empirical part of this study, we compare a social integration project of an NGO to a social inclusion project promoted by the Ecuadorian State to answer our research question: How do NGOs understand the concept of social integration vs. the social inclusion approach of migratory public policy in Ecuador? Venezuelan case in Quito (2015-2019).
