Zusammenfassung:This investigation strives to understand the consequences for the security of the Esmeraldas province derived from the post-peace agreement in Havana and the Colombian internal armed conflict. To understand the consequences of the internal armed conflict, it is necessary to start from a theoretical lens that allows to understand the conflictual dynamic. This theory must even be applicable to any case of this type of conflict. In this perspective, this explanation is found in the Liberalism, which allows to think about the origin of a conflict as a result of the lack of guarantees of the fundamental rights of the citizens of a country. Furthermore, even explain how these conflicts can become transnational and affect the national security of a third country, in this case, Ecuador. It is important to understand that the Colombian internal conflict, like the peace processes that have been signed within that framework, has generated consequences for Ecuador, especially in terms of security for the border provinces, including Esmeraldas. Illegal economies, mainly derived from drug trafficking; violence from new illegal armed actors; forced displacement of border communities; overflow of state capacities to attend to settlers as a result of displacement; risk of attacks on strategies infrastructures of the Ecuadorian state, among others, are the evidences of the direct consequences for the security of Ecuador in the border area of Esmeraldas, particularly and generally for Ecuador. All of these situations represent security challenges for Ecuador, because if adequate public policies are not articulated, in the social, economic and political fields, it will be difficult to contain the consequences for the country in general derived from the Colombian conflictual dynamic. All this, considering that these threats represent for Ecuador a permanent source of expenses for the economy and that they do not allow certain structural problems in the border areas to be partially or even fully resolved.
