Resumo:The objective of this work is to analyze the power and instrumentalization of the media in the Ecuadorian periphery, specifically, in the Quinindé canton, province of Esmeraldas, the place that was the object of our research for which a theoretical framework was developed with the concepts of power, periphery and instrumentalization that was supported by authors such as: Daniel Hallin, Guillermo Mastrini, Martin Becerra, Denis de Moraes, Manuel Castells, among others that allowed to support this theoretical framework. The methodology we used in our work was qualitative and as a first step we conducted an extensive analysis of documents both from authors who had addressed this issue and from public institutions such as: Arcotel, Supercias, SRI, which helped us to support the field work conducted and to approach the objectives set. We also conducted open and semi-structured interviews with journalists and owners of the four media outlets in Quinindé. As well as the technique of participant observation in the largest media of Quinindé, with which we were able to approach the dynamics of journalistic work, the editorial lines and the circumstances in which the activity of the communicators in the media of Quinindé is developed. Once the field research was conducted, we learned that in the Quinindé media there are two types of instrumentalization (political and economic) that are exercised by both the owners and the communicators of the four Quinindé media.
