Therefore, the general objective of the present study entitled “The right to the application of ancestral knowledge and traditional knowledge as a collective right of indigenous peoples, communities and nationalities: study in the San Juan de Ilumán Parish” was aimed at investigating the recognition and application of ancestral medicine of indigenous peoples, communities and nationalities in Ilumán, in order to promote and strengthen these practices within the framework of comprehensive health and rights. It was based on the conception of health of ancestral medicine that is based on the balance between the body, mind and spirit. Ancestral treatments focus on restoring this balance, using a variety of methods, however, their recognition within the Ilumán Health Subcenter is being violated, the inhabitants of the community cannot exercise their right to access traditional medicine. Using a mixed approach, it was possible to examine the information collected through documentary review techniques, interviews and surveys, obtaining the results that there is a high degree of violation of the right to the application of ancestral medicine collectively in the parish of Ilumán. Because the only form of care that the Health Center offers is Western medicine. The people who are part of the community consider that ancestral medicine is not recognized or valued by the health system, since the medical staff only offers Western medicine in a way that rejects ancestral knowledge. |

Por lo tanto, el objetivo general del presente estudio titulado “El derecho a la aplicación de saberes ancestrales y conocimientos tradicionales como derecho colectivo de los pueblos, comunidades y nacionalidades indígenas: estudio en la Parroquia San Juan de Ilumán” se orientó a investigar el reconocimiento y aplicación de la medicina ancestral de los pueblos, comunidades y nacionalidades indígenas en Ilumán, con el fin de promover y fortalecer estas prácticas en el marco de la salud integral y los derechos. Se fundamentó en la concepción de salud de la medicina ancestral que parte del equilibrio entre el cuerpo, la mente y el espíritu. Los tratamientos ancestrales se centran en restaurar este equilibrio, utilizando una variedad de métodos, no obstante, su reconocimiento dentro del Subcentro de Salud de Ilumán está siendo vulnerado, los habitantes de la comunidad no pueden ejercer su derecho al acceso de la medicina tradicional. Utilizando un enfoque mixto se pudo examinar la información recopilada a través de las técnicas de revisión documental, entrevistas y encuestas obteniendo como resultados que hay un alto grado de vulneración del derecho a la aplicación de la medicina ancestral de forma colectiva en la parroquia de Ilumán, pues la única forma de atención que oferta el Centro de Salud es la medicina occidental. Las personas que forman parte de la comunidad, consideran que la medicina ancestral no es reconocida ni valorada por el sistema de Salud, ya que el personal médico ofrece únicamente la medicina occidental de manera que se desestima los saberes ancestrales.The indigenous peoples that are part of Ecuador have developed knowledge about ancestral medicine.
