| Riassunto: | There are very rigorous diets for poultry production worldwide, in Ecuador it has been found that many of these diets are already established and they do not choose to look for new food sources. There are many foods which can work as nutritional supplements that would boost productivity. It has been found that getting poultry producers to add this type of ingredient to the poultry diet is a major limitation, either due to lack of knowledge or disbelief in its effectiveness. Thus, an alternative for this problem is the use of propolis for the diet of free range chickens, which is a medicinal and nutritional substance that helps digestive function and therefore raises zootechnical parameters. The main objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of the addition of propolis on the production of 15 day old free-range chickens. The experimental site was in the province of Carchi, Bolívar canton. This research had a DCA experimental design, which had 4 treatments with 3 repetitions each, having 12 experimental units in total. Propolis as a supplement to the diet of free-range chickens was added in a solid form mixed with the balanced feed, in different doses. Once this study was completed, it was evidenced in the results that propolis has a positive effect within the zootechnical parameters, mainly in terms of feed conversion, being the best treatment T2, with a feed conversion of 3.218, in the same way, significantly reducing the mortality of the lot, benefiting the productive performance of the birds\; In this way, different possibilities are opened to include nutritional supplements within the poultry sector. |
