Shrnutí:The aim of this research was to analyse the nutritional status of the elderly by applying the Mini Nutritional Assessment survey in the day care centre in the Urcuqui canton. The study was descriptive and quantitative. The population consisted of 70 older adults of both sexes. The assessment was carried out using the MNA that evaluates: anthropometrics, global assessment, dietary history, self-perception of health and nutritional status. The quality of the diet was evaluated within 24 hours, the results found that the highest percentage were women (64%), 28% were between 81 and 89 years of age respectively, and 98.5% had incomplete primary education. According to the screening diagnosis, 60% reported eating the same food as they knew how to eat, 38.6% did not know how their health was and 61.4% had no nutritional problems. Of the 70 adults who passed the global assessment, 100% of the population had a normal nutritional status. However, the diet consumed according to the 24-hour recall was found not to cover the recommended nutritional needs in macronutrients and kcal/day for this population group, which were found to be below 90% of adequacy. It was concluded that most of the population has a normal nutritional status.
