Summary:The frequent use of compound feed in the production of broiler chickens causes high costs and a high fat index, which have compromised the productive parameters of the bird. It is important to look for supplements or additives that contribute to improving animal production, such as the case of hydroponic green forage (FVH), a fresh food suitable for consumption by birds, enhancing the absorption of nutrients at the gastrointestinal tract level. The present investigation consisted of supplementation based on hydroponic green forage of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) at different levels at 10, 15 and 25% in the diet of broiler chickens (Cobb 500), as a conditioner to the gastrointestinal tract. 96 15-day-old chickens were used during the growth and fattening stage, distributed in 24 experimental units, under a completely randomized design. The results show a significant beneficial effect between the treatments, at the level of weight gain T1 (compound feed + FVH of barley) with a value of 3.1kg, fat index T1 (compound feed + 25% FVH of barley) with a value of 5.81% and intestinal villi for length of 2010.54 um, and depth of 275.3 um, compared to T0 (100% compound feed) weight gain 2.5 kg, fat index of 8.4% and for intestinal villi, length 1049.95 um, depth 106.04 um. At the feed conversion level, no significant differences were found, all treatments showed 1.7. For production costs, they show a profit of 45.5% T1 (compound feed + 25% FVH of barley) with a cost benefit of $0.8 for each dollar invested, compared to T0 (100% compound feed) with a profit of 3. 56% and a cost benefit of $0.04. It is determined that supplementation with barley FVH is a profitable alternative in the production of broiler chickens, improving gastrointestinal health.
