Descripció
Sumari:Scientific studies show that there is a wage gap between men and women in the labor market, as an expression of the asymmetric participation of both men and women in it. Hence, the research was oriented to the analysis of public policies implemented in the Ibarra canton during the years 2023 and 2024 to guarantee the right to equal pay between men and women in the private sector, through the documentary review of official sources and works by experts, as well as through the application of surveys to employees of four local companies in the textile and furniture industry, in order to identify possible existing gaps and propose the measures to be adopted for their reduction and/or elimination. With a mixed approach and a non-experimental documentary design, a descriptive research was developed, through the use of analytical, socio-legal and normative methods. As research techniques, documentary review, interviews with public officials and union representatives and surveys administered to employees of the selected business sample were applied. Among the results obtained, it is necessary to highlight that Ecuador has a constitutional and legal framework that guarantees women's labor rights, however, there were no national or local public policies focused on this problem. It was in January 2025 when the Ministry of Labor ordered the preparation of equality plans that each company must register and implement, with a view to achieving equal treatment and opportunities between women and men. Its implementation is still pending, however, this government initiative and the entry into force of the Regulations for Compliance with the Organic Law for Equal Pay between Women and Men offer an encouraging outlook for wage equality in Ecuador.
