Descripció
Sumari:The present thesis focuses on the English language skill that commonly shows lower development among students: 'Speaking'. An analysis has been conducted on high school students at 'Las Lomas' Educational Unit with the purpose of identifying possible underlying reasons. To achieve this, both qualitative and quantitative methods are employed, including surveys and observations with students, as well as focus groups with institution teachers, in order to provide a comprehensive analysis. The results obtained from the application of these methods reveal that students face significant difficulties in comprehension when carrying out 'listening' exercises, a receptive skill that is crucial for the development of 'speaking'. Additionally, it has been observed that approximately one-third of the students’ report having no extracurricular contact with the English language, which is closely related to teachers' observations regarding the limited development of the students. In line with the present research, it is suggested to improve oral proficiency through the implementation of innovative and interactive activities, which promote problem solving and collaborative work, in what is known as Project-Based Learning. With the aim of providing effective strategies to assist students in the development of their oral expression skills in English more efficiently, as it is found that the development of oral competence and listening comprehension are crucial for effective communication in English. Educational methods should address both language production and reception, providing opportunities for comprehensive language skill development.
