| Riassunto: | The Centro Residencial Hogar 'Corazón de María' is an entity dedicated to provide housing, care and support to elderly people, who face various situations associated with their age such as cognitive impairment, so they can no longer live independently in their homes. Therefore, it seeks to provide them with a safe and comfortable environment where residents can receive personalized care and assistance with their daily activities. In this context, the present research focuses on describing the level of cognitive impairment in the elderly population of the Centro Hogar 'Corazón de María' in the city of Quito during the first half of the year 2024. In order to achieve this objective, a descriptive research with a quantitative, cross-sectional and non experimental approach is used. The instrument used was the KIKA-COG: Cognitive Assessment Test, applied to 103 older adults between 61 and 109 years of age, of whom 58 are women and 45 are men. The results indicate that 36% of the center's population has a very high cognitive impairment, with 15% of the population between 80 and 89 years of age. Regarding the specific dimensions of the test, a greater cognitive deterioration with respect to age was found in the areas of recall, verbal fluency, registration, orientation and recognition. While there are less variations in the areas of frontal executive function, free recall and comprehension. |
