Crynodeb:The research work was carried out in the “Cerro Blanco” Private Conservation Area, located in the Otavalo canton of Imbabura province, near the facilities of the UNACEM company, which produces millions of cement bags a year, which are distributed throughout the country. The objective was to evaluate the carbon absorption percentage of the Weinmannia fagaroides and Alnus acuminata species in response to the effects of climate change and the increased concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere due to anthropogenic activities, seeking to determine which of these species has the highest carbon capture capacity in their plant structure\; this study provided relevant information for the 'Million Trees' project and the Zero Carbon policy implemented by companies worldwide. As part of the methodology, two plots were established for each species at selected sites after a preliminary inspection of the study area, plus trees were designated on each plot and samples were taken from the tree bowl. The calcination method was used to determine the percentage of carbon absorbed by each species through ash analysis. In addition, the amount of 2 that will be stored in the area over the next few decades was estimated using a non-destructive method, based on the measurement of variables such as the height and DAP of trees within the plots. The findings indicated that the Alnus acuminata species stores 0.22 tons of carbon in its structure compared to Weinmannia fagaroides, which sequesters a value of 0.10 tons per individual. Thus, the Alnus acuminata species exhibited higher 2 absorption per individual compared to Weinmannia fagaroides.
