In conclusion, a decrease in water quality was evidenced at the study sites, showing that the water quality of the Tahuando River is within the “Medium” category range according to the ICA-NSF. |

En 1970 se desarrolló la técnica Delphi para formular un Índice de Calidad de Agua (ICA) que se ha sido considerado por expertos y la Fundación Nacional de Saneamiento (NSF) de los Estados Unidos. El presente estudio calculó la calidad de agua del río Tahuando ubicado en la ciudad de Ibarra (Ecuador) utilizando esta herramienta y examinando los parámetros: temperatura, turbiedad, oxígeno disuelto, sólidos totales, nitritos, fosfatos, demanda bioquímica de oxígeno, pH y coliformes fecales mismos que fueron comparados con un estudio similar realizado en el año 2016, con el objetivo de contrastar los estados de calidad de esta fuente hídrica. En conclusión, se evidenció un decremento de la calidad de agua en los sitios de estudio mostrando que la calidad del agua del río Tahuando se encuentra dentro del rango de categoría “Media” según el ICA-NSF.During the last four decades, various techniques have been used to calculate the environmental quality index.
