| Sumari: | The intensive use of cement in the construction industry has a considerable environmental impact, while the improper disposal of mango leaves produces waste that is often burned or discarded without control, contributing to pollution. In response to this situation, the possibility of transforming this waste into an alternative resource that contributes to sustainability is being considered. The purpose of the study is to develop a prototype cement block for masonry by adding mango leaf ash and to determine its performance through technical testing. The research applies a quantitative and exploratory approach, in which blocks were manufactured with a standard dosage of cement, sand, stone, and water, incorporating ash in proportions of 5%, 10%, and 15%. The results showed favorable behavior when comparing the modified blocks with the parameters established in the INEN 3066 standard. In the compressive strength tests, values of 1.45 MPa were obtained for the block with 5% ash, 1.42 MPa with 10% and 1.39 MPa with 15%, classifying the latter as a class C block. In terms of water absorption, a value of 9.36% was achieved, complying with the NTE INEN standard, which establishes a maximum of 15%. These findings demonstrate that incorporating mango leaf ash allows for the production of blocks that meet the required quality and strength parameters, representing a viable and sustainable alternative for construction. |
