| Итог: | Penaeid shrimp are constantly exposed to infections by pathogens. In response to these and despite the apparent simplicity of their immune system, different defensive mechanisms have been described against viral, bacterial and fungal pathogens, including complex processes of cellular and humoral immunity. On multiple occasions, nodular hyperplasia of the lymphoid organ has been reported, in the form of structures called "lymphoid organ spheroids" (LOS). This study presents a review of these structures, their histopathological description and their relationship with infectious pathologies reported to date. Examples of the main viral agents reported in their structures are also presented with different hypothesis about their origin and function. Finally, it discusses the importance and limitations of these structures and their diagnostic value through histopathological techniques, aimed at the lymphoid organ and other locations in different organs and tissues of shrimp ("ectopic spheroids"). |
